Pioneering PtL system on an industrial scale
FERROSTAAL is supporting INERATEC as developer and overall project manager in the role of owner’s engineer in the realization of the first and largest power-to-liquid (PtL) plant on an industrial scale with an output of 7 megawatts. The innovative plant in Frankfurt am Main will produce up to 2,500 tons of Fischer-Tropsch crude oil from green hydrogen and over 7,000 tons of biogenic CO2 and renewable electricity annually for further processing into 3.3 million liters of e-fuels. Industriepark Höchst in Frankfurt gives the site access to low-cost renewable hydrogen (H2) and a biogas plant as a source of CO2.
The pioneering plant produces a wide range of sustainable fuels such as e-kerosene, e-diesel and wax. The clean diesel has drop-in quality and can be used directly in cars and trucks. The naphtha and wax fraction can be further processed into CO2-neutral e-fuels and synthetic chemicals.
This pioneering plant introduces a highly innovative technology for the power-to-liquid (PtL) plant as a future standard product for industrial applications. Larger capacities will be achieved in further projects by upscaling and multiplying the modules. With this first-time application on an industrial scale, the PtL system will serve as a pioneer for numerous other projects worldwide.
