Solar Power for the Middle East

An energy hungry region ideally suited for large-scale solar thermal power generation

The solar thermal plant on the rooftops of Talitha Kumi shows the great potential of solar power in the Middle East even when used in smaller-sized utility applications.

Ferrostaal plans, develops and builds concentrating solar thermal power plants on an industrial scale, using the energy of the sun to its fullest potential. Almost all countries in the Middle East provide excellent preconditions in this regard.

At the same time, local economies are growing throughout the Middle East. And increases in energy demand go along with the economic growth. In order to supply energy enough in the future, renewable energies – solar power in particular – are being considered to contribute significantly to the overall energy mix. A growing awareness of environmental concerns, for sustainable energy generation and the pressing fact of limited fossil fuel resources have already resulted in large-scale commercial solar thermal power projects, along with the development of bankable, reliable and economically efficient technologies. With each new projects being realized, the investment costs for subsequent solar power projects become gradually cheaper, swiftly approaching full commercial competitiveness with conventional mid-load capacities.
