Ferrostaal receives an award for the construction of a gas-steam power plant in the Netherlands

Essen, 2010-06-24

Two million accident-free working hours

Ferrostaal has been presented with a certificate for working without an accident over a period of two million working hours (900 days) while constructing a gas-steam power plant in the Netherlands. The work included the construction of two gas-steam turbines, generators and heat-recovery steam generators, as well as two boilers each weighing 3,500 tons.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Reimelt, member of the Ferrostaal Board, comments: “In this project, we have proved once again that we are capable of providing top performance. At the same time this further award shows that the safety of our employees is extremely important for us.”

During construction of the power plant, the weight of the boilers presented one of the main challenges. Two cranes with a tare weight of 300 and 600 tons respectively were employed to install it on schedule and safely. The plants were built on an artificial island in the middle of the Ijsselmeer, some 50 kilometres from Amsterdam.

Following awards for working without an accident on Java (Indonesia) and in Venezuela, Ferrostaal most recently received a certificate for one million accident-free working hours in Libya.
